EVENTS.
WHAT’S HAPPENING NOW:
Earlier this summer, we created several new committees and an exploratory council. The committees and Council managed to assemble, elect point people and even launch a few initiatives. The Council drafted proposals for the organization’s renewed mission and structure.
We’ll meet regularly through the fall so check back often!
FALL
Tues., September 15 at 6:30pm: LEFFERTS PLACE GENERAL MEETING
Meet in front of 105 Lefferts Pl.
Our committees have been hard at work! We’ll hear reports from the Beautification Committee, Civic Engagement Committee, Events Committee, Communications Committee, Fundraising Committee and Events Committee. The Exploratory Council members will share their work, answer questions and open the floor to anyone who’d like to speak.
In addition to meeting in-person (weather permitting), we will try to also hold the meeting by videoconference, such as on Zoom. Those details will come in a follow-up email.
Date TBD: 2ND EXPLORATORY COUNCIL MEETING
The Exploratory Council was formed in July as a temporary task force of volunteers from across the Lefferts Place area to draft proposals for the association’s goals and structure. After a couple more meetings, the Exploratory Council will present its ideas to all of the LPCA and hold a vote for your ratification.
In the Council’s Tuesday, August 25 meeting, they discussed:
LPCA’s possible future administrative structure
The block’s geographic borders ( including stretches of St. James Pl. and Grand Ave. between Atlantic and Fulton) and membership.
The Council discussed “qualifications” for membership as well as means of reaching out to, and including, residents not typically attending meetings and participating in the past. with a target of including on residents. The council talked about the logistics of incorporating as a tax-deductible nonprofit, which could help the LPCA obtain grants and matching funds. We also discussed a possible future board of directors, or steering committee, which could include representatives of each committee. Nothing was finalized at this meeting, and before anything is formalized, all the LPCA members will have a chance to vote on the proposals later this year.
The Exploratory Council will hold at least two more meetings to draft ideas. We’ll keep you updated.
